(Almost) Wordless Wednesday

I'm feeling the onset of illness and am heading back to the Bay tomorrow, so I anticipate updating this blog even more sparsely this week. Whilst I try to return to state more conducive to blogging, I'll just share a few food photos from the last week or so.
We've reached the halfway point of the week. As I mentioned earlier, I'll be spending the upcoming week in the Bay Area, with family time and birthdays coinciding this weekend. What are your weekend plans?

  1. Feel better soon. Sick on vacation is the worst. The recent food looks great, especially the waffles! We're having a dinner party this weekend so hopefully some good eats here are in the works too.

  4. Have fun! This weekend... I've got baking to do. Cupcakes for a friend's birthday, strawberry shortcake for my sister's birthday, and something (TBD) for a good friend going through a rough patch. Oh! And a lunch date with said friend. Food has a lot to do with cheering people up, haha.

  5.  What are those leaves?  They almost look like tenpura to me.

I hope you're getting better soon.  As long as you eat this healthily, I think you'll be okay. ;-)

  8. Thanks! Those bars were based on the Blueberry Oat Bar recipe from Fat Free Vegan Kitchen; the oats just weren't as finely ground and I used homemade lime curd as the fruit filling.

  9. Thanks! It's been a busy but pleasant few days. It certainly sounds like your oven will be getting a lot of use this weekend! Good luck with everything and have fun this weekend! I agree, food is a good way to bring someone a bit of good cheer. :)

  10. Thank you. I'm already feeling better than I was at the time I posted these photos...maybe it's all the kind words. :)

That photo is of kale chips. You can pretty much dress kale leaves lightly in anything--a simple blend of oil, salt, and pepper is a good foundation--then bake them at a low temperature until the leaves become dry and crisp (325 degrees Fahrenheit for around 15 minutes seems to work well for me). This last batch was sprinkled with a Cajun spice blend, which is why they have reddish flecks.
