Vegan 100 Update and 2011 Notables

Besides apparently being an acceptable time for all major retailers to begin reminding the consumer world about the imminent arrival of Valentine's Day, the end of December is also customarily a time for reflection on the year that is about to end. With that in mind, I thought it appropriate to revisit the Vegan 100 list I posted around this time last year. I didn't make any deliberate attempts to eat items from the list, so there has been little headway. Here is the slightly updated version anyway.   2. The food looks incredible!  The list is a great idea to remind us not to eat the same foods over and over.  I tend to get into a rut sometimes!

  3. I love this post!  Just bought teff flour to make injera (and I still have to make nann, too!).  I am also going to be making my own soy milk and my own tempeh this year!! So, anyway, obviously, I love your list.  As if you asked for advice, you MUST try fennel, either roasted or raw.  Roast it at 425 (or 400 is also fine, but will take longer) with olive oil and sea salt until it is nice and caramelly and brown on the edges and custardy when you eat it :-))) or it is great raw sliced thin in salads.  Also, I had arepas this year for the first time and they are AWESOME.  Hard to find arepa flour, though, but amazon has it.  Finally, I do NOT recommend fiddlehead ferns, I had them once (boiled, omg, disgusting) and I'm sure they are OK, but wow, they were gross that one time (leading to avoiding them ever since!).
